How to Write a Note to the Seller

Handwritten Note to the Buyer?

Hey there! I need your help. I made my first sale, the order is ready to ship, but I want to add a warm thank you note to the package. First, is it a good idea to send the buyer a handwritten note or sending a message on Etsy would be better? And what kind of note should I send them? Some inspiration would be amazing. Thank you all for your help.

Honestly, just a little business card with a handwritten "thank you!" goes a long way. We order from Etsy a lot and have noticed it's common for sellers too add a little note. It's a beautiful thank you because you're obviously busy but still took time to write the word thanks

I totally agree. I love when an Etsy package arrives with a handwritten note. I think that is what makes the Etsy's handmade shopping experience beautiful and different from just an online store.

I personally send out my orders with a little note, something like: "Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy your new $item. Best wishes"

I loved the business card idea! Sadly, there is no place to write something on my current business card. But I started to think of designing a new one that I can also use as a thank you card. Thank you so much.

I've noticed that smaller Etsy shops take the time to hand-write little notes, probably because they have more time to. I've always appreciated getting the hand written notes, and give them myself when I have the time. It is extra work tho, so I guess it's just a question of if you want to put in the time for it. Hand written notes seem to make the purchase a little more personal tho, imo

Thanks for your comment. I'm running a handmade gift shop and I thought a handwritten note would fit the shop's theme. Like you said, those little notes make purchases more personal and most people like them. It looks like it's worth to spend time on writing a note.

I send all my buyers hand written notes. the very first was filled with thank yous and i told them they were my first sale ever, etc. they messaged me on instagram and told me they were happy that they were my first sale and that they loved my item. so in short, i think its a great idea. my writing is terrible but i think it adds to the experience. this is not something from walmart when they buy from etsy. it has a personal hand made touch from the maker.

When you print a shipping label, there's a place that you can add a note that will be sent to the buyer. You can make it so that it goes out to every buyer. I believe you can also make a few standard notes for different items. I keep mine as a generic "thank you". I do always include a note with the item, saying "thank you", and other stuff related to the specific item.

I print a packing slip for each order, and I hand write a note on it. There's plenty of space so I can personalize the note for each customer. I also send a message on Etsy thanking them for their order when it has shipped. I know they already get a notification from the system but I like thanking them at the time of their order as well.

Do this! It's a ton of fun and folks seem to enjoy it. But make sure you practice a bit of handwriting. I scribbled out some lines of thanks and asked my wife if it sounded good. She said "It might if I could read it!"

I always include a business card with thank you for your order written on the back and a 10p packet of haribo sweets. I have lost count of how many people have commented about the sweets in reviews and I have definitely got more reviews since starting this. (57 reviews for 223 sales)

I do both, works fine for me. I use Etsy convo to thank for the order and to send updates about their order progress. I don't write on the business card but I do add that to the package, I write the message on an ethically made greeting card.

I bought a bunch of kraft paper tags and write a little note on them. Just something like "thanks for your order, I hope you like it"

I always send a handwritten note, it helps me practice (and advertise on the low) my calligraphy.

Definitely a good idea when you're starting out but it's not as sustainable when you start to pull in a lot of business. I had postcards printed recently with my social media handles, ways to contact me, and a coupon on the front and on the blank back I usually write a quick sentence with my signature.

Don't feel pressured to do it to get reviews - I don't include any messages in my packages or ask for reviews, and I get a 30% review rate.

I put a personal note with every sell. I say something like ''I hope you like your new dress. Here's a coupon for your next purchase, Link to social media etc''. Congrats on your first sale. I'm only on Etsy for 3-4 months but no far I'm loving it and I hope you make more sales in the future :) xx

I prefer to send and receive hand written notes! Just adds a touch of a genuine feeling, even if it may not be personalized - a small piece of paper with a "thank you for supporting my business" or along those lines. You can even write a few ahead of time when you have some downtime and you'll have a small pile to grab from if you're in a rush later (and also because you mentioned your current business card doesn't have room for anything written on it, so this might work in the meantime before you have to order more).

I always add a "thank you, name!" on the packing slip. If it's a large or custom order I will sometimes include a thank you on a notecard.

I try and add a handwritten "thank you" on my business cards but I used to write 1-2 sentence notes when I was getting started.

I used to hand-write "thank you!' on all my packing slips. Then sales picked up, and then they picked up again, and after a month or so of constant hand-cramps, I bought a self-inking "thank you" stamp.

I always include a handwritten thank you note with all my orders. Honestly it hasn't even gotten anyone to leave reviews yet, but I'm hopeful it will help eventually. I find that it adds a little personal touch, and I know as a customer, I appreciate when sellers send me thank you notes. Even if they don't review, I'm sure most appreciate it.

What I did is I made thank you postcard with my logo and my website (as I am building as brand) which cost me like $1 something per card and send out with orders.
